SUSTAINABILITY IN FASHION AND AS A LIFESTYLE

Sustainability is the main priority for fashion designer Monika Nováková.

The combination of the precisely thought-through cuts, sustainable materials and interesting functional details guarantee the garment outlasts trends.

The use of natural materials connects back to nature and slow living. MONIKA supports the concept of slow fashion, appreciation of traditional textile techniques and hand crafted textiles.

SUSTAINBILITY

THE TERMS SUSTAINABLE AND SUSTAINABILITY ARE  USED TO DESCRIBE MANY DIFFERENT APPROACHES TOWARDS IMPROVING OUR WAY OF LIFE.

SUSTAINABILITY DOES NOT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE A RIGID DEFINITION. IT IS IMPORTANT TO FIND YOUR SUSTAINABLE WAY OF LIVING AND TO GET THE BEST OUT OF IT.

KNIT-TO-SHAPE

All the handmade knitwear is fully fashioned (knit to shape) and linked by hand. Shaping the panels of garment reduces the waste of yarn which would be made by cutting off the shape from the knitted fabric.

If the garment is ripped apart, the yarn is reusable after washing.

YARNS AND FABRICS

My idea is to support the textile industry in Czech and Europe, small companies and local artisans. To offer sustainable fashion made out of traditional materials as linen, wool, cotton, more modern sustainable materials as bamboo or tencel and also being opened to any innovative natural materials.

SAMPLING, TESTING AND CARE

Sustainable way of creating new piece of garment into this world is definitely to make a piece which lasts. And to be sure that the piece lasts, the materials need to be not just good quality, but also well treated. During the process of production but also after, when the garment reaches its new owner.

WASTE AND SCRAPS

I am saving all the rests of the yarns and threads I produce during the process of creating and reuse the scraps for another use. Longer yarn scraps are used for hand linking of knitted garments, smaller pieces are used for recycled projects as handmade paper.

I learned we need to think about every waste we make, to reduce it as much possible and if we make any waste, first should always come an idea for upcycling it than throwing away, despite the waste would be recycled.
